Why become a B Corp?

Pete drove the decision to become a B Corp; when he first mentioned it to me I hadn’t heard of it. However, I mentioned it to some of my clients and they had heard of it and they loved it.

Becoming a B Corp at it’s simplest is about being good people, treating people kindly and being good to the planet which desperately needs us to do better.

I heard a lovely phrase recently, one which was something along the lines of “it doesn’t matter what you do, no one has the right answer for saving the planet, but if everyone makes something better today than yesterday we’re going in the right direction”

There are lots of reasons to do this, if “being good isn’t enough” let’s look at a longer list of reasons I hope will convince you:

Being a B Corp™ employer offers numerous benefits, including:

  1. Enhanced Reputation and Trust: B Corp certification signals a commitment to high social and environmental standards, enhancing reputation among customers and employees.
  2. Attraction and Retention of Talent: Employees are increasingly seeking out employers with strong ethical values and a commitment to sustainability. B Corp certification helps attract and retain top talent who are motivated by more than just financial gain.
  3. Operational Efficiency and Innovation: The rigorous assessment process for B Corp certification often uncovers opportunities for operational improvements and innovation, leading to greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  4. Increased Customer Loyalty: Consumers are more likely to support businesses that align with their values. B Corp certification can enhance customer loyalty and attract new customers who prioritise sustainability and ethical business practices.
  5. Access to a Supportive Network: B Corps are part of a global community of like-minded businesses. This network provides opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, and mutual support.
  6. Positive Impact on the Planet and Society: B Corps commit to reducing their environmental footprint and improving their social impact, contributing positively to the planet and society.
  7. Competitive Advantage: Differentiating your business as a B Corp can provide a competitive edge in the marketplace, particularly as consumers and businesses increasingly prioritise sustainability.
  8. Investor Interest: Many investors are looking for companies that demonstrate strong ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance. B Corp certification can make your business more attractive to these investors.
  9. Enhanced Employee Engagement and Satisfaction: Employees are more engaged and satisfied when they work for a company that aligns with their values and demonstrates a commitment to making a positive impact.
  10. Long-term Sustainability: B Corps focus on long-term sustainability rather than short-term profits, ensuring the business remains viable and successful over the long term.
  11. Market Differentiation: B Corp certification helps your business stand out in a crowded market, signaling to consumers and partners that you are committed to high standards of social and environmental performance.
  12. Compliance and Risk Management: The certification process helps identify and mitigate risks related to social and environmental issues, ensuring compliance with current and future regulations.
